ピアニスト、コンポーザー、プロデューサー、そしてシンガーのジョージ・デューク氏が8月5日、ロサンゼルスの病院にて亡くなりました。慢性リンパ性白血病で療養中でした。
いつもニコニコしていて、大好きなプレーヤーでした。
一時期、ジャズのアルバムとポップスのアルバムを交互に発表していましたね。
音楽のジャンルに関係なく、どんなステージでも楽しそうに演奏していたのが印象に残っています。
あの伝説的ドラマー「ジョージ・川口」氏が、雑誌のインタビューで次のように語っていました。
「あいつのピアノは凄い、だってスタンウェイのフルコンサートグランドピアノが縦に揺れるんだぜ！」
わたしが好きなのは、1983年の渋谷公会堂でのステージ。
前年に発表したアルバム「Dream On」は、大ヒットしました。
自作のクラビネットでのソロ、ジョージ・デュークのエンターテナーぶりに腰が抜けそうでした。
